The new Edwards ModuLaser V1.4 firmware release is here!

Edwards ModuLaser is a scalable aspirating smoke detection solution, featuring a flexible modular design, easy installation and configuration, with standalone or networked options featuring backwards compatibility. It is CPR approved to EN54-20, with LPCB marking

ModuLaser V1.4: Always connected

The V1.4 firmware release brings a whole range of new features to the Edwards ModuLaser product range, while being backwards compatible to products already installed in the field. It provides an extremely effective solution in applications where pinpoint detectors are not enough.

The new Edwards ModuLaser V1.4 features include:

  • Remote connectivity via IP
  • Modbus over IP (on the Command Display Module)
  • Fire and fault notification via email
  • Filter replacement warning, based on an adjustable maintenance date
  • Graphics monitoring & integration with support for ATS8600
  • MatrixScan (within cluster, or over network with Command Display Module) ensuring that the source of the alarm trigger can be quickly located
  • Reference detector functionality to optimize reliability without compromising detector sensitivity
  • Wider adjustability of Fire Alarm 2 level
  • Mandatory change of default passwords

These new features add to a comprehensive list of existing features in the Ewards ModuLaser range. The system can incorporate up to 8 detectors, with each detector module accommodating up to 250 meters of combined sampling pipe and up to 50 sampling holes. This means that a system can be created with up to 2000 meters of pipework and 400 sampling holes.

Installation is speeded up by using quick-fit pipe adaptors to facilitate the easy connection of sampling pipe, no matter the configuration. The detector also includes Installation and Maintenance wizards to speed up and simplify the installation and maintenance of the system, and flexible input and output programming to make set up and programming easy with little training needed.

The operator has not been forgotten either. The detector has multilingual support, accommodating 12 languages – including the main European languages - an intuitive user interface with color display and functional buttons, and a high-resolution chart recorder. The new IP connectivity means that users can be immediately informed of any fault or low-level alarm without having to go to full alarm. Being always connected means always staying informed

ModuLaser V1.4 Designed With The User In Mind

These features mean that Edwards ModuLaser has a number of key benefits over other types of fire detector, especially in harsh environments, including:

  • Large area coverage with pinpoint fire location
  • Faster response to fire, reducing damage to assets and risk to life
  • Lower cost to the user
    - Faster, lower cost of installation
    - Lower programming/commissioning cost
    - Lower maintenance cost
    - Lower training cost
  • Remote and immediate fault notification, through the IP connectivity, reducing downtime
  • Remote maintenance capability
  • Higher reliability/lower false alarms, whilst maximising sensitivity, using the Reference Detector Functionality

ModuLaser V1.4 excels in harsh environments where other detectors struggle, including:

  • High airflow environments (e.g. Datacentres, Electrical Switchrooms)
  • Environments where early warning is essential to ensure orderly evacuation (e.g. Airports, Train stations, Underground systems, Shopping centres)
  • High volume environments (e.g. Warehouses, Shopping Centres, Aircraft Hangars)
  • High ceilinged areas (e.g. Atria)
  • Dirty/dusty environments (e.g. Paper Mills, Waste Management, Manufacturing Plants)
  • Environmentally challenging areas (e.g. Cold Stores, High Humidity Areas)
  • Areas where maintenance access is restricted (e.g. Security Restricted Areas, Hospitals, Prisons, Laboratories)
  • Areas where aesthetics require detectors to be hidden (e.g. Museums, Cultural Buildings)
